What Winter Means To Me.
Cold, frosty mornings
Warm breath visible in the air.
Spider’s webs, shimmering
Tiny diamonds strung along silk.
Jack Frost patterns on windows
Creating a magical fantasy world.
An open fire, burning in the hearth
Sharing its warmth with all.
Chestnuts roasting, toasted marshmallows
Casseroles and apple pies.
The excitement of snowfall
Delicate flakes, dancing their way down.
Children out playing, building snowmen
Making snow Angels.
Sledges, pulled along by parents
Laden with children.
Whizzing down the slopes
Falling off, and back up again.
Snowballs, delighting the children
When they score a direct hit.
The bird table host to many varieties
From tiny Sparrows to Wood Pigeons.
Nets of peanuts, wild bird seed
Giant fat balls, keeping them fed until spring.
Christmas, giving us something
To look forward to, a family time.
This is what winter means to me.
