Unimaginable today.
Mobile phones like bricks
Red telephone boxes.
Spangles, Pacers, Virol malt extract,
Gold Rush bubble gum.
Life before computers
Face book & Msn.
Cameras with cartridges in
Instead of memory cards.
Classic TV; Poldark, Dallas,
Porridge, Crossroads,
A Bouquet of Barbed Wire,
The Two Ronnies & Morecombe & Wise.
Families playing board games
Monopoly, Cluedo, Scrabble.
Card games; Gin Rummy, Sevens,
Patience, Snap, Happy Families.
Playing outside all day, feeling safe
Only coming indoors to eat.
Twin tubs and the spin dryers
Which travelled across the kitchen floor when spinning.
Video recorders, Beta Max or VHS?
Video games; Pac man, Space Invaders.
Bobbies on the beat in every area
Well known in their communities.
Children playing together, learning,
Reading, instead of stuck in front of a TV.
Vinyl records, tape recorders, portable radio’s
Tape recording The Top 40 on Sunday evening.
Radio Caroline, Radio Luxembourg
Listening secretly in bed.
CD’s replacing our vinyl records,
DVD’s replacing our videos.
Home cooked foods, no ready meals
Gold Top milk in glass bottles.
Life before microwaves, Sony Walkmans,
iPods, Playstations & Wii’s.
Traditional children’s parties
With Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs,
Musical Statues & Blind Man’s Bluff.
Children happy to go home with a balloon
Instead of a Party Bag.
