2010 AD, a conversation with God.
They say this man has some sort of power over people. He tells them stuff and gives them grandiose ideas about who they are and things they should be doing. He openly questions what we say and things we teach. He agrees with most of it but isn’t happy with what he’s found and the way things are done.
Now look here, we have our ways of doing things, always have, we like things done just so, that’s just the way it is. Now, we understand you have ideas and you see things in a certain way, we all have things we like to think and do, that’s life, we understand. The thing is, we don’t like what you’ve been saying, we don’t like the effect you’re having on people, we don’t like the way you criticize us, we don’t like you questioning what we say. As you seem a nice and well meaning person we can try and forget about what you’ve been saying and doing, but only on the condition that you understand the way things are done, you don’t say anything, unless you’re told to, you don’t think you don’t do anything unless we tell you to do it. We will shape your message to suit our way of doing things, we will manage your environment and the clothes you wear, the places you go and people you meet. You will mix with the influential, and aid the needy but in a way we see as appropriate. There are many ways of doing things but if you want to be a success you have to follow our rules, and being the intelligent young man you seem to be I’m sure you’ll understand that.
But what if… He came from a stable, lived a life of poverty, mixed with low born outcasts, taught the simple and the lowly, cared little for the opinions of the rich and powerful, said things that needed saying but which the ordered establishment didn’t understand and couldn’t begin to cope with, what then?
Well, what we have here is some kind of misunderstanding… We have our ways and they don’t include any of that sort of thing, there was a time when it did happen, many thousands of years ago, but times change and we really don’t care for that attitude.
Say the lessons being taught were from a different time of simple and lowly people who had no idea about anything, no one wrote or read and the facts of life were barely understood by anyone, even the high and mighty had nothing by your standards, what if you missed all that? What if he couldn’t even imagine what you were? What if you rely too much on lessons for a simple people from some distant time in a distant country who you have nothing in common with? What if from an acorn many things grew? What if the death and sins bit was the less important bit? What if there needs to be a bit more realism in your doctrine for the sake of your people?
We’re obliged for your opinion and thank you for it.
Thank you for listening, the world seems to be a funny place, and you all deal with things far better than I could.
