II
Catarrh sticks in his throat,
his voice, that distinct blocked nasal whine
as he puts his hands on his aching head,
his watering eyes blind him to sight,
he doesn’t want to look anyway.
He doesn’t want to do anything but sleep,
curl up with somebody’s hot water bottle
but he’s alone and he’s cold,
he’s never felt so alone before,
he shakes his aching head,
he sneezes and then speaks.
Speaks of all the pain he knew,
of all the knowledge he gained,
it was only one word,
it was very profound I fear,
his answer for all existence,
he opened his mouth to speak
‘Ow!’
he said.
