Sometimes we find ourselves in an uncomfortable place. Our relationship is over but the bond remains, chatting on msn because there is no-one else, yet, who can fill the vacuum of a shared history, no-one else who can tend our souls. We are not ready, yet, to hand out the ammunition that will, inevitably, shoot down a later love. And so, for now, we exist in a purgatory. There is no focus on a shared future. That dream has gone. There is only a backward glance to what was and what might have been. And the conversation dwindles within the claustrophobia of a finite past. Until, unbearably, we stumble back, crying, into a non-shared reality of our own making.
