PATRICK REYNOLDS sits at his desk. ANDY GARNET sits on the other side.
ANDY GARNET
Thank you for meeting me on such short notice.
PATRICK REYNOLDS
It sounded important.
ANDY GARNET
Yes it is. I have reason to believe that Christopher Chapin is my son.
PATRICK REYNOLDS
I knew that you were involved prior to her marriage but you were inL.A.months before the wedding.
ANDY GARNET
Merissa came to see me the week that she married Grant.
PATRICK REYNOLDS
I see. Andy that was almost four years ago. Why are you just acting on this now?
ANDY GARNET
When I found out that Merissa married Grant. I ran away toEurope. I just wanted to forget how hurt I was. I few months ago my sister sent me some picture. Christopher was in some of them. It is hard for me to explain but I just knew he was mine.
PATRICK REYNOLDS
Well it appears that Christopher was conceived at about the time of the trip. We will need a DNA test to prove paternity. Andy I have to warn you that if you are wrong you may still ruin Merissa marriage The Chapins may not like that.
ANDY GARNET
None of this would have happened if Merissa hadn't lied to me and Grant.
PATRICK REYNOLDS
O.k. I will draw up the papers. I want you to think about what you are going. Then let me know.

LATISHA MILLER
I can't believe that David was ever that little.
MAGGIE MILLER
Actually he was pretty big. He was three weeks late. He weighed nine pounds eleven ounces.
LATISHA MILLER
He was a big boy.
MAGGIE MILLER
I was in labor for seventeen hours. Doug nearly wore a hole in the floor pacing.
LATISHA MILLER
You are making me nervous.

Andy, I heard you were back in town.
ANDY GARNET
Hi David, how's it going?
DAVID MILLER

DAVID MILLER
Thank you. I also heard a nasty rumor that you got hitched.
ANDY GARNET
It's true.
DAVID MILLER

ANDY GARNET
No actually I am meeting Merissa.
DAVID MILLER
O.k. well how about I show you to your table and I will send her over when she gets here.
MERISSA CHAPIN rushes in.
MERISSA CHAPIN
Hello.
ANDY GARNET
You're late.
MERISSA CHAPIN
I'm sorry I had a hard time getting out of the house. Donna was asking twenty questions.
ANDY GARNET
What did you tell her?
MERISSA CHAPI
That I was meeting a friend for lunch. What is this all about?
ANDY GARNET
Let's order first.

Fine. I'll have the shrimp salad and a club soda.
ANDY GARNET
I'll have the chicken with mushroom sauce.
THE WAITER leaves.

ANDY GARNET
O.k. Christopher.
MERISSA CHAPIN
What does my son have to do with it?
ANDY GARNET
I know Merissa.
MERISSA CHAPIN
What are you talking about?
ANDY GARNET
Don't play dumb. It is unbecoming.
MERISSA CHAPIN
I really wish you would tell me what you're talking about?
ANDY GARNET
O.k. you came toHollywoodand spent the night with me then you left and married Grant. Nine months later you gave birth to our son.
MERISSA CHAPIN
That's crazy.
ANDY GARNET
Christopher is my son and I am going to prove it
MERISSA CHAPIN
Is this some sort of sick joke? Is this your way of getting back at me?
ANDY GARNET
No Merissa it's the truth and it is time that you faced it.
MERISSA CHAPIN
I am not going to listen to this.
ANDY GARNET
I have a right to see my son.
MERISSA CHAPIN
He's not your son.
MERISSA CHAPIN stands up.
ANDY GARNET
You're not going anywhere. You are going to sit down and have lunch.
MERISSA CHAPIN sits down.
MERISSA CHAPIN
You're not going to take my son away.
ANDY GARNET

CURTIS NELSON
You got a deal.
LIZ CHANNING comes in.
CURTIS NELSON (CONT'D)
Hello again.
LIZ CHANNING
Hello.
DOUG MILLER
You two know each other?
CURTIS NELSON
We ran into each other earlier.

CURTIS NELSON
It was nice seeing you again.
EXT GARNET HOUSE--DAY
ALICE GARNET works in the garden. ANDY GARNET helps his mother pull weeds
ALICE GARNET
Andy I know there is another reason you came home.
ANDY GARNET
I wasn't going to say anything until I was sure. There is a possibility that Christopher is my son.
ALICE GARNET
You're Christopher's father, but how?
ANDY GARNET
Merissa came to see in me just before she married Grant. I didn't know she was going to marry him.
ALICE GARNET
What are you doing to do now?
ANDY GARNET
If Merissa won't let me see him, I'm considering issuing a paternity suit.
ALICE GARNET
Does Linda know about all of this?
ANDY GARNET
Yes and she is willing to help me. I just don't want to hurt Christopher.
ALICE GARNET
Do you want to take him away from Merissa?
ANDY GARNET
No I just want to be able to see him. I want him to know that he is my son.
ALICE GARNET
Don't forget who you're dealing with. The Chapins don't always play fair.
ANDY GARNET
I know but us Garnets can fight just as hard.
INT CHAPIN HOUSE--DAY
MERISSA CHAPIN holds CHRISTOPHER CHAPIN. While he eats Graham crackers
MERISSA CHAPIN
You are such a handsome little boy. Mommy loves you very much. I'm not going to let anything happen to you

INT GARNET'S STABLE--NIGHT
ANDY GARNET piles hay bails. LINDA GARNET comes out to check on him.
LINDA GARNET
Andy what's wrong?
ANDY GARNET
I'm just a little jealous, that's all. Dad is making such a big fuss about Nancy and Brent's baby. He doesn't even know he's a grandfather.
LINDA GARNET
Why don't you tell him?
ANDY GARNET
I'm not sure how he's going to react. He was never very fond of Merissa. He said that she was a gold-digger and he was right. I'm not sure how's he's going to feel about that gold-digger being the mother of his grandson.
LINDA GARNET
Christopher is also your son. I think your father will be happy for you. You're not going to know if you don't tell him.
INT GARNETS KITCHEN--NIGHT
EMILY MCCORMICK and ALICE GARNET talk to NANCY MCCORMICK.
EMILY MCCORMICK

EMILY MCCORMICK
Try eating plain crackers in the morning.
ALICE GARNET
And drink lots of water.
NANCY MCCORMICK
Don't worry I will take good care of your Grandchild.
ALICE GARNET
We are both going to spoil that baby.
EXT GARNET STABLE--NIGHT
ANDY GARNET talks to CHRIS GARNET
CHRIS GARNET
I told you not to get involved with that woman.
ANDY GARNET
I know that Dad but it doesn't matter now. What matter's is that Christopher is my son and I will do anything to be able to see him.
CHRIS GARNET
I don't like the idea of my grandson living in that house.
ANDY GARNET
I know but Merissa is his mother.
CHRIS GARNET
He belongs here.
ANDY GARNET
I have a feeling things are going to get real nasty.
