- Intro: The poem explores an adult's feeling towards a younger uncommunicative charge and his/her wish to mentor the younger one against the pitfalls of life
If only you could stop to listen
You would hear the wisdom enshrined in silence
If only you could speak,
I'd know your mind's yearning
if only you could consciously breeathe
You would isolate the aromas of this hour
And be able to fathom those missed opportunities
When, instead we grumbled
If only you could taste the success of this moment
project it a million times and channel it
To the pinnacle of dreams
Then patiently wait to savour its sweetness
If only you could watch this evening walk past
Knowing that the dawn is just beyond
And life consists of rising, falling, skidding, tripping...
Picking oneself up
If only you could see the inner you...
And feel- feel about your future as I do
put it into perspective as I've done
Then, only then will you not mourn
