- Intro: John and Maureen had a dream...............
John and Maureen Pickford were a happily married couple. They had been together for forty years, and they had had their ups and downs like most couples. They had no children, compensating for their absence with a long holiday every year in Spain or Turkey.
They were both nearing retirement in couple of weeks, and one night whilst discussing what they were to do when they no longer had to work, they came up with the idea of selling up and going abroad to live.
Although excited by the idea, both felt they needed to see a little more of the world before finally retiring abroad.
Mulling over various options they hit on the idea of buying a Winnebago motor home and travelling to wherever they wished.
That very weekend they visited various mobile home showrooms and came home with their arms full of brochures of the latest Winnebago models. It took quite a while, but they finally made a decision as to which model was best suited to their needs.
A few days later they contacted their local estate agents and instructed them to put their bungalow on the market. It didn't take long to find a buyer, and they were excited to have found such a quick response to their agents advert.
Whilst the legal side of the sale was proceeding they instructed the local saleroom to clear the bungalow of all sell-able furniture and fittings.
The Winnebago was delivered to their home and parked in the drive.
Finally the day of their departure arrived, and it seemed that all of their neighbours were standing in the street to wave them goodbye.
Feeling rather self concious they both climbed into their seats in the gleaming Winnebago. John started the engine and they very slowly wended their way along the street, returning the waves and good wishes of their neighbours.
Maureen was so involved in doing so that she barely noticed that the Winnebago had rolled to a stop.
Turning to John she was alarmed to see him slumped over the steering wheel, dead.
The dream that they had so long planned had all come to an end.
