"Mommy, wake up!"
I opened my eyes and Luke was sitting on top of me smiling with his big blue eyes. He started jumping up and down the bed when I sat up, "How do you have so much energy?"
Jumping he said, "Magic."
I got up and walked over to my closet and started changing, "Luke what day is it?"
Luke was swinging his legs from the end of the bed, "Uh, Saturday."
I popped my head out of the closet, "Which means?"
Luke thought for a second then jumped off the bed, "Grocery Day!"
He was only excited for grocery day because I always take him to get ice cream afterwards. It was the only solution to get him off the couch Saturday mornings. After getting Luke dressed, we went out of the apartment and to the local grocery store.
As we entered, I asked Luke, "Remember the rules?"
I grabbed a shopping cart and Luke placed his hand on it, "Always have one hand on the cart."
I smiled, "Good. The most important rule?"
Luke looked around, "Never leave Mommy's side."
I patted his head, "Good job. Now lets go get some fruit."
Before I knew it, I had lost Luke. One minute he was helping me choose the ripest tomato then the next I was calling his name through the aisles. I kept calling his name until finally...
"Mommy!"
I turned around and Luke was running toward me. I picked him up and smothered him with kisses, "Lucas Adam Moore, what did I say!"
He frowned, "Sorry."
"You scared me. How did you find me?" I asked wiping his face.
Luke pointed to a man who walking toward us. He looked familiar...
"Addyson? Is that you?"
"Adam? Adam Reynolds?" I said surprised.
"How long has it been?" He asked.
"Four years," I said precisely.
"So your married now," he said glancing at Luke.
I placed Luke down and told him to go pick out a cereal. "Luke's father isn't in the picture."
"Oh," he said awkwardly. "Well my folks are having a barbecue later and I really hope you and Luke are there."
I smiled, "Sure. Still the same house with a creepy owl on the roof?"
He laughed, "Yeah. See you then."
I waved as he left the store. Four years. I grabbed Luke's arm and told him we had to leave.
"Mommy, the cereal!"
I dropped Luke off at my mom's house before heading to Callie's house where I told her everything. She sat me down on her living room couch.
"I can't believe Adam Reynolds is back. This is your chance at your first love again!" Callie was more excited than I was.
I just shrugged and Callie stood up, "Fine, then maybe its a chance to tell him."
My eyes grew big and I stood up quickly, "No way!"
Callie walked over to me and placed her hands on my arms, "Addyson, he has to know."
I shrugged her off and started walking toward the door. "Luke has to know who his father is."
I shut the door behind me and rushed to my car. I drove to my mother's house and parked in the driveway where I could see through the living room window. I watched as Luke was throwing a football around. I closed my eyes and went back to high school....
I walked down the hallway and stopped in front of my locker. I opened it quickly and shoved a brown paper bag in it. I lightly touched my eyes which were sore from all the crying this morning.
"Addyson! Guess what?!" I saw Adam running toward me with a big smile on his face.
I put on a fake smile, "What?"
"I got the scholarship!" He grabbed me and kissed me with so much passion. I couldn't take it. I pushed him off me and ran toward the girl's restroom where I vomited in the sink. I washed my mouth and looked at myself in the mirror.
"Adam, guess what? I'm pregnant."
