- Intro: So I was asked if there was a story to Kaitlyn and the others three years ago when they met Lauren. And whilst there's not, I am going to show you what happened to them, afterwards.
Jack:
"Jenny get down from there!" I shouted whilst washing the dishes. I could see her through the window. Jenny was my oldest of my four children. Jenny was seven, Alyssa was five and the twins Kelly and Damon were just three. My wife Caroline had died during in childbirth to our twins, and whilst I had lost her, I had gained to adorable children.
Damon was the only Shadow Person out of my four children, and I was pretty glad about that. Although he'd grow up like I had, on Earth living among humans, not eating them, and if I had my way he'd never know about his heritage. But something told me that was unlikely, seen as Shadow People have an uncanny way of causing problems, and chaos wherever they go.
"Jenny!" I shouted again. Jenny almost jumped when she heard me shout again, I hate to say it but the girls are scared of me. Well in the natural world, I would be their hunter, so it's kind of engrained in them to be scared, even if they didn't know why, and they never would, because I never would hurt them.
"But dad I was having so much fun," Jenny whined as she came through the back door, and into the kitchen. She was muddy from head to toe, and had cuts all over her. I laughed and sent her off for a bath. There was no point in getting angry, kids needed adventure, and to grow a little. Getting dirty and climbing trees is all part of it I suppose.
"Your doing a great job you know," the voice was quiet, and had come from the entrance to the kicthen. Darleen, Carolines sister. She came to check in on us every now and then, and she was a single mom her son was called Luke. She came over for Christmas and Birthdays, I still didn't celebrate Halloween. "Well I'm doing the best I can," I replied drying my hands on a dishcloth and then turning round to face her.
Her blonde curls were shinning in the light, and skimpy dress she had on, did nothing to diminish the crush I thought she had on me, since we first met. "Yeah well it's amazing, I mean... after everything you've been through. How's the kids doing anyway?" she said awkwardly shuffling slightly in the doorway. "Sit down, I'll make us some coffee, but yeah the kids are doing fine. Jenny's well, Jenny, Alyssa's all sweet and plays with her barbie dolls, and dreams of being a princess. Kelly and Damon are well, just your normal three years olds. Walking, talking, getting more attitude by the day," I laughed and shook my head. Their mum had been a lot like them, and her genetics really did show in the girls, Damon was just like me through and through.
"Wow their doing well then," she chuckled, shaking her head. I studied Darleen for a moment, and I mean really studied her. She seemed generally good hearted, and interrested in her neices and nephew, but there was a spark in her eye, like she was animated. It made me wonder, just why she was really here.
"Kaitlyn hey," to my surprise just as I'd put the girls and Damon to bed, Kaitlyn rang, she sounded like she was in floods of tears. "Jack! Oh god I can't believe it. They found her! They found Lauren, she's okay, she had another baby, and she's pregnant again! She's your new queen, and, and, well Blade was the one that told me, so thank him," she stuttered. "Oh that's great Kate," I said and after that we said our goodbyes and I sat on the sofa.
So what if Lauren was back? It was nice to know she was safe, but really did I honestly care anymore? No I didn't, I'd grown out of that one, and I was never going back. She'd lied too me, and then hurt us all for apperantly the greater good, but considering how 'happy' her and Blade were, I often wondered whether she actually did want to go with him.
"Daddy," I heard the faint little voice, and turned around to see Lyss standing in the doorway, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, they were big and wide, I could tell she was scared. "Lyss what's wrong?" I asked getting up. She ran into my arms, and I scouped her up. "Daddy the monsters are back, under my bed. They, they keep talking, and growling, they won't go away," she said tears filling her little eyes. I smiled and rolled my own when she wasn't looking. Kids.
"Come on then we'll go scare them away," I said putting her down, and walking towards the stairs. "No don't!" she screamed literally attaching herself to my leg like a limpet. I frowned what a weird reaction for her to have. She normally waits patiently on the sofa, and then I'll stand in her room for five minutes, and then come down. Something here didn't feel right.
